अक्षरं परमं ब्रह्म ज्योतीरूपं सनातनम्।
गुणातीतं निराकारं स्वेच्छामयमनन्तजम्॥
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥
[श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता 2.47]
आलस्यं मदमोहौ च चापल्यं गोष्ठिरेव च; स्तब्धता चाभिमानित्वं तथात्यागित्वमेव च। एते वै अष्ट दोषा: स्यु: सदा विद्यार्थिनां मता:॥
आलस्य करना, मदकारी पदार्थों का सेवन, घर आदि में मोह रखना, चपलता-एकाग्रचित न होना, व्यर्थ की बात में समय बिताना, उद्धतपना (inaugurate) या जड़ता, अहंकार और लालची होना, ये विद्यार्थी के आठ दोष माने गए है अर्थात् इन दुर्गुणों से युक्त को विद्या प्राप्त नहीं होती।[विदुर नीति 116]
Evils-defects of a learner-student :- laziness, use of drugs-narcotics, attachment for the home, lack of concentration-frolic behaviour, versatility, wasting time in useless affairs, ignorance, ego and greediness.
चंचलता :: बहुमुखी प्रतिभा, बहुविज्ञता; versatility.
सुखार्थिन: कुतो विद्या नास्ति विधार्थिन: सुखम्।
सुखार्थी वा त्यजेद् विद्या विद्यार्थी वा त्यजेत् सुखम्॥117॥
सुख चाहने वाले को विद्या कहाँ? विधार्थी को सुख कहाँ? इसलिए जो सुख की चाहना करने वाला है, उसे विद्या की प्राप्ति की इच्छा छोड़ देनी चाहिए अथवा विद्यार्थी को सुख की इच्छा छोड़ देनी चाहिए।विदुर नीति 117]
The student should not crave for comforts-luxury. The learner can have either education or comforts.
विद्वत्वं च नृपत्वं च न एव तुल्ये कदाचन्।
स्वदेशे पूज्यते राजा विद्वान् सर्वत्र पूज्यते॥
विद्वता और राज्य अतुलनीय (इन दोनों की एक दूसरे से तुलना नहीं की जा सकती) हैं, राजा को तो अपने राज्य-देश में ही सम्मान मिलता है पर विद्वान का सर्वत्र सम्मान होता है।
Enlightenment, learning, knowledge and kingdom-empire can never be compared. A king is honoured-respected in his own land, country, state, whereas the intellectual, scholar, philosopher is respected everywhere.
कामं क्रोधं तथा लोभं स्वाद शृङ्गारकौतुकम्।
अतिनिद्राऽतिसेवा च विद्यार्थी ह्याष्ट वर्जयेत्॥
A celibate, #student should renounce (reject-forget) sex, anger, greed, desire to eat tasty food, make up, recreation (entertainment, games, plays, shows), excess sleep, flattery & undue physical labour.
These things are mismatch for studies-learning. One should be eager, ready, anxious to learn-understand and apply, what has been learnt. Rote memory-cramming is of no use. There is no place for back biting, rest for a learner. He should devote himself to the Guru, teacher, master and the God.
The way-manner in which water oozes out of the soil by digging it with spade-mattock, the student, learner attains, acquires education, learning. enlightenment from the teacher by serving him.
In today's context one should not expect the student to serve him in any way, except paying him for coaching, tutorials, tuition. At occasions the student collect the fees from his parents and do not pay it to the teacher. Today's teaching is life oriented, meant to prepare the child for earning by acquiring some skills, ability, knowledge, understanding, application in a specific field. He may become doctor, engineer, Police, administrator, bureaucrats, politician, criminal to earn more & more; through corrupt means. Impact of one person-Guru is seldom observed over the personality of the child.

यथा खात्वा खनितेत्र भूतले वारि विन्दति।
तथा गुरुगतां विद्यां शुश्रूषुरधिगच्छति॥

However, the internet, books-magazines, TV have become very strong medium which are shaping-affecting the over all development of child (probably in negative direction). Parents should be extra cautious-careful in this regard. Social media especially Face Book & YouTube are spoiling the lives of millions of children & grown up.
BJP government which talks of morals do not care to restrict all this. Americans are bent upon spreading vulgarity, nudity all over the world.
